Common questions
Money, Quotes and the $50 Off
Pricing questions come up first, so here's exactly how ours works.
Is the quote really free?
Yes, there's no call-out fee to have someone come out and price the job. You get a fixed written figure before any work starts, and you're free to say no thanks.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No, coming out to look at the job and price it costs you nothing, whether it's one extra power point or a full switchboard upgrade. You only pay once you've said yes to the number.
How do I pay?
Payment happens once the work is signed off and tested, against the figure you already agreed to. No hourly rates, no surprises on the invoice.
How do quotes work?
A sparkie sizes up the job on site, then hands you a fixed price in writing before anyone picks up a tool. If the job runs longer than planned, that price doesn't move.
Common questions
The Legal Stuff, Made Simple
Licensing and safety, without the jargon.
What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?
It watches the circuit and trips power the instant current starts leaking where it shouldn't, which is what stops a wiring fault becoming a shock or a house fire. Older Hornsby homes built before they were mandatory often still don't have one on every circuit, and we fit them as standard.
What brands do you install?
Clipsal and Hager for switchgear, SAL and Beacon Lighting on fittings. Premium gear, not cheap imports, because a switchboard is not the place to cut corners.
Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?
No, DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW beyond the most basic tasks, and it can void your home insurance too. A licensed sparkie gets you a Certificate of Compliance instead of a risk.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, and we're a Master Electricians Australia member. Both are checkable, so verify us rather than take our word for it.
Common questions
Response Times and Booking
How fast we move, and how to get on the list.
Do you work weekends?
Yes, we can fit weekends in when a weekday just doesn't work for you. Genuine emergencies get a response any day, any hour.
How soon can you fit me in?
Often same or next day for a standard booking, and sooner again for a real emergency. We'll give you an honest window when you call rather than a vague estimate.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
A burning smell, sparking, arcing, or a safety switch that keeps tripping every time you reset it. Any of those means stop using the circuit and call us straight away.
How do I book?
Call (02) 9160 7653. Whoever answers works here and can talk through the job on the spot, then lock in a time that suits.
Common questions
Local to Hornsby
The questions that only make sense once you know the streets.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Yes, both. New apartment infill and home extensions along the rail corridor keep pushing switchboards past their original capacity, so we size the upgrade to what the renovation actually needs.
Why do Hornsby's older homes need switchboard upgrades?
A lot of the older housing stock here still runs on ceramic fuse boards that predate circuit breakers and safety switches. Once a kitchen reno or a new appliance load goes in, that old board is usually the first thing to show strain.
How local are you, really?
Hornsby and the surrounding suburbs are our regular run, not an occasional detour. It keeps the response times honest and means the team already knows the local housing stock.
What suburbs do you service?
Hornsby plus Waitara, Asquith, Mount Colah, Normanhurst, Wahroonga and Berowra, all inside or bordering Hornsby Shire Council. Every one of those suburbs gets the same team and the same guarantee.
